Our process is to document and carefully recover the structures and prepare them for reconstruction on a new site. Here are the different (steps/stages) 

Finding

We regularly acquire antique structures so if you have specific requirements let us know or join our email list and we can present information to you about new arrivals as soon as possible.

Recovering

We document each cabin completely by taking measurements, diagramming, and tagging each log. Then we dismantle the cabin, log by log, and transport it to our facility. Original components such as joists, flooring and other boarding are included to the extent they are salvageable.  any historical documentation is included.

Staging

There we rebuild the cabin shell, replace/repair any damaged logs and level and square the structure. During this “staging” process, modifications such as adding or removing openings and adjusting heights can be performed.  The structure is treated for wood destroying insects and fungus, and is tagged for reconstruction. Cabin photos, drawings, a foundation plan.

Delivering

Shipping to your site is not included but can be arranged for around $2.50 per mile one way.

Finishing

Old Log Cabins can assist in any aspect of your reconstruction/restoration project. Once the log shell is erected on your site, the remainder of the work depends on your intended use of the structure.  As a residence, it will require the typical finishings as in conventional construction, such as plumbing, electrical, roofing and interior finishes.  As a rustic retreat or off-grid cabin the construction details may be different. The costs for a turnkey build will depend on these factors, and vary by locale based on your site, local codes and availability of tradespeople in the area.  We are glad to discuss the details of your unique project.

We have shipped cabins all over the country and our customers have done reconstruction themselves, by using local contractors, or by our custom services. 

Custom Cabins

We can customize a cabin to your specifications using antique logs, ….if you have a particular plan in mind, .  These logs are acquired from cabins and barns where the entire structure wasn’t salvageable, but some good hand hewn logs were saved.  Custom structures offer a lot of design flexibility. We would be glad to provide a quote for the “ready to erect” shell plus any additional reclaimed materials.
